Cornwall SCITT are delighted to work in partnership with Bath Spa, an Outstanding provider of Teacher Training, to award the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE).
Cornwall SCITT believes that the academic study of education informs and enhances professional practice. With this philosophy at the centre of our ethos, Cornwall SCITT has always delivered their own PGCE programme with the support of universities. Cornwall SCITT provide advice, taught sessions and assessment for those enrolled on the programme, and Bath Spa moderate and validate the qualification.
The Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) carries 60 credits which can be accredited towards a 180 credit Masters in Education. This qualification can facilitate promotion to leadership roles, and are increasingly a pre-requisite for senior leaders.
During the course, trainees will complete 3 assignments, focussing on current issues arising in education. Assignments are currently focussed in Special Educational Needs (SEN), Assessment for Learning (AfL) and Pupil Progress. The assignments are strongly related to the trainee’s experiences within the classroom and may rely on student case studies, interviews with members of staff in their placement school and action research during their teaching practice.

All secondary trainees undertake the PGCE as part of their course. Primary trainees can choose whether to follow a QTS-only course, or to follow a QTS with PGCE route.
The Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) qualification is delivered by Cornwall SCITT, who are responsible for recommending trainees for QTS to the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL).
