TEACHING TASTER COURSE INFORMATION

Graduates or undergraduates who think that they might be interested in a teaching career are being given the opportunity to put their theory to the test with the help of SCITT or School Centred Initial Teacher Training.

Cornwall SCITT is offering budding teachers the chance to go on a free 3-day taster course to find out more about secondary school teaching. Next October, applicants will get the opportunity to spend two days in a local secondary school and another day and a half at Truro College. During these visits students will be invited to chat to teachers and pupils, lecturers, subject Leaders and careers advisers as well as observing lessons and getting involved with classroom activities.

SCITT Programme Manager Alison Smith said "We are able to offer people who have a degree, or who are enrolled on a degree course in...

Mathematics
Science
Foreign Languages
Design & Technology
ICT
Music

...the opportunity to get a taste of secondary teaching with a view to making it a career. We can also offer information on all the different routes into teaching that are available."

The free course is for a limited number of applicants and is on a first come first served basis. Alison explained "There will be no obligation to sign for a teaching course. This taster course is meant to give you an introduction to teaching through a mixture of experience and information in order to help you reach a decision as to whether secondary teaching is the career for you. It should be a very interesting, fun and exciting course for anyone who has ever wondered about life in the classroom."

If you are interested in the free 3 day taster course, please contact: The Teaching Information line on 0845 6000 991 who will send you an information pack and unique reference number and also: Linda Robins on 01872 267092 for a registration form and course details.
