School Experience Programme and Premier Plus
You will be able to apply for the SEP if you are considering teaching maths, physics, chemistry or a modern foreign language (MFL) at secondary level and hold a 1st, 2:1 or 2:2 degree in a related subject. The Premier Plus programme has additonal benefits: see TDA link below.
You can also apply if you are currently in your final year of studying for a degree in one of these subjects and are interested in teaching that subject at secondary level.
A variety of activities could be included during your school placement. On day one your host school will arrange for you to observe teaching and pastoral work and give you the chance to talk to teachers about day-to-day school life. You may be able to complete up to a maximum of 10 placement days on the SEP. This will need to be arranged between you and your host school.
These additional placement days will allow you to explore more about teaching the subject of your choice. You could have the opportunity to plan and deliver part or all of a lesson and meet or shadow a member of senior management. This could help you build confidence, knowledge and understanding about life in today’s schools.
You will need to register with the TDA if you have not already done so, before you can apply for the SEP. If you have already registered with the TDA, you can apply for the SEP quickly and easily by calling the Teaching Information Line (TIL) on freephone 0800 389 2500.
